Here at the Children's Bed Shop, we can't quite believe that it's that time of year again. That's right, it's the end of October which can mean only one thing, Halloween! Many years ago, it was believed that on the night of 31st October, the spirits of the dead came back to their homes to visit, so people lit bonfires in the hope of sending away any evil spirits that might also be lurking. Creepy! It's a good job that we now celebrate Halloween in a more light-hearted way with kids’ Halloween traditions such as pumpkin picking and trick or treat, which are becoming more and more popular in the UK with every passing year.

It doesn't matter whether your child is interested in all things spooky or whether they find Halloween a little bit too terrifying for their liking, we have some great suggestions as to how to decorate their bedroom for the season. If your child is into Halloween, then we have some brilliant Halloween decoration ideas and if not, we have some excellent non-scary decoration ideas (pretty pumpkins, sweet bats, and cute cats) too. We have chosen decorations that need crafting from scratch to help keep the kids busy this half term, but you can, of course, also buy a lot of these decorations from your local supermarket. Do whatever makes the kid’s Halloween fun and easiest for you as a parent!

Paper Pumpkin Wreath

First, you need to cut out six sheets of orange paper measuring 6 inches by 12 inches. You should then score the paper every inch and make a pleat. Then, you need to glue all the strips of paper together to make a circle-shaped fan.

Next, you need to cut out a pumpkin's face using black paper and glue it to the orange circle-shaped fan. Think eyes, a nose, and a mouth.

Finally, you should cut out a stem from brown paper, glue it to the back of the pumpkin and glue a loop of ribbon behind the stem so that the pumpkin can be hung from your child's bedroom door.

Black Spider Fan

The first step is for you to purchase a black paper fan decoration from a supermarket's craft section or craft shop. You then need to use black paper to cut out eight legs, green paper to cut out some eyes, and black paper again to cut out some pupils for the eyes. Glue these to the fan. Glue a loop of ribbon behind the fan so that the spider can be hung from your child's wardrobe.

Felt Bats

Start by purchasing some black felt and googly eyes. Next, you should search online for a bat template. Print the bat template and cut the felt out around it. Glue the googly eyes onto the bat's head and place the bat on your child's bed.

Pumpkin Candles

The first step is for you to find some small glass vases, decorative paper, and battery-operated tealights. The next step is to glue orange decorative paper around the glass vases. After this, you will need to cut out the pumpkin's eyes, nose, and mouth from black paper and glue them to the orange decorative paper which should already be glued to the glass vases. Finally, put the battery-operated tealights into the glass vases and turn them on!

Window Monsters

The first step is to purchase some coloured self-adhesive paper online. Next, you should search online for some monster templates and print them out. Place the self-adhesive paper over the templates and cut out the monsters. Stick the monsters to the inside of your child's bedroom window or porch to give trick-or-treaters a giggle.

Black Cat Fan

This idea is very similar to the black spider fan above. The first step is for you to purchase a black paper fan decoration from a supermarket's craft section or a craft shop. You then need to use black paper for the outer ear and orange paper for the inner ear, white paper for the outer eyes and black paper for the pupils, orange paper for the nose, yellow paper for the mouth, and white paper for the teeth. Glue these to the fan once you have cut out the shapes. Glue a loop of ribbon behind the fan so that the cat can be hung from your child's chest of drawers.

Ghost Chair

Transform your child's bedroom chair so that it becomes a kid’s Halloween furniture. You can easily achieve this by draping a white sheet over their chair, cutting out eyes and a mouth from black felt, which has some adhesive backing, and sticking it in place. Spooky!
