Red Nose Day is an excellent opportunity for children and families to have fun whilst raising money for a fantastic cause. Since its launch in 1985, Comic Relief has raised over 1 billion pounds for people in need in this country and all around the world. Here are a few ideas as to how you and your children can fundraise for Red Nose Day on Friday 17th of March.

Get planning!

Creating a fundraising plan is a great place to start and will hopefully ensure that you and your family will raise lots of money for Comic Relief. Get your children to gather their friends or siblings together to make a fundraising plan of action. One of our many beds with desks such as the Parisot Grayson High Sleeper Bed with Wardrobe & Desk, is a great place to write down their ideas! You can also register for a free fundraising pack on the Comic Relief website, which includes lots of great fundraising tips, ideas, stickers and posters to advertise whichever event you choose to do.

Paint it Red

The colour red is synonymous with Comic Relief and it is a great theme to stick to for any fundraising activity. The ever-popular red nose is essential for every Comic Relief event and this year's red nose has been designed by the British designer Sir Jony Ive. It starts as a small, flat crescent that pops up into the traditional sphere-shaped nose, proving that the littlest things can really make a big difference. You could also encourage your children to dress up in head-to-toe red for the day and perhaps even colour their hair red (temporarily of course!) Making Comic Relief-themed hats or headbands is another great idea or they could spend the day in any fancy dress costumes they choose. All these ideas can raise money if your children gain sponsorship, ask for donations or donate some of their own money to Comic Relief.

Be Kind

Being kind is one of the themes of Comic Relief this year and it gives your children the perfect opportunity to do some thoughtful deeds for your family or members of your local community. Introducing charity work at a young age is a great way to engage children in the wide range of benefits that giving back to your local community can offer. Being kind could involve getting sponsored to help elderly relatives and neighbours with cleaning, gardening, or shopping or just popping around to see them and keep them company. There are so many ways to be kind and it's a great way to explore with your children how being helpful and kind can benefit so many people.

Cake!

Having a bake sale is always a popular way to make money for Red Nose Day! Get together with family and friends, have fun baking, and make some delicious cakes to sell. You could also ask everyone to make red nose themed cakes too with plenty of red icing, jam red noses or cherries on top. You could also run a small cafe alongside your cake stall with tea, coffee and a few tables and chairs for your guests to sit and enjoy all your wonderful cakes.

Challenge Yourself

There are so many great ways to get sponsored for Comic Relief that your imagination can really run wild! Traditional ideas for sponsorship include activities such as swimming, skipping, cycling, running and walking but some people also go a bit crazy with ideas such as sponsored bungee jumping, sky diving or even sitting in a bath of baked beans! The smaller members of your family can also get involved with a sponsored toddle around your local park. For a more relaxing event, try a sponsored readathon whilst cuddled up in one of our cosy mid-sleeper beds with an inbuilt tent for an extra snug and comfortable experience

Time for a Party

Everybody loves to get together for a party and a great way of raising money is to host a Comic Relief disco or quiz night. You could find a venue such as a community centre or pub to hold the event or you can hold a smaller version in your home. Another great idea is to hold a theme night - everyone can get sponsored to undertake a few hours of a particular hobby or activity, such as knitting, crocheting, playing board games, drawing, painting or computer gaming. Raising money whilst having fun with your friends is a great experience for all the family.
At the end of a busy fundraising day, a good night's sleep is essential. Your children will enjoy their own sponsored sleep and dreamathon in one of our beautiful treehouse beds.
